Alyssa Nakken debuts as first-ever woman to coach in MLB

|

Yesterday is a day that will be remembered forever.

Alyssa Nakken took her place in the Giants’ first-base coaching box in the final innings of an exhibition game vs. the A’s, becoming the first woman to coach on the field in MLB history.

She replaced Antoan Richardson in the late innings of Monday’s exhibition at the Oakland Athletics.

“Congratulations on making history!” Giants outfielder Hunter Pence posted on Twitter shortly after the final out of San Francisco’s 6-2 win.

Nakken joined first-year Giants manager Gabe Kapler’s staff in January, becoming the first woman to hold a full-time coaching position at the major league level.

An incredible sight to see, and definitely just the beginning of women coaching in MLB.
