The NBA has decided to effectively end the MVP discussion, with the season restart games not counting toward a player’s resume, but one of the frontrunners to win the award is OK with it.
LeBron James is a four-time MVP award winner, so he knows all about being named the best in the league. It’s crazy, though, that at 35 years of age, James is very much in the discussion, with him and Giannis Antetokounmpo really being the two players discussed most. It would be a complete shock for anyone else to win it.
And no matter what LBJ or Giannis do during the upcoming games once the NBA restarts play at the end of the month, James still feels confident that he’s done enough to win it.
“I’m not disappointed because things happen,” he said, via ESPN.com. “You control what you can control, and I can’t control that,” James said. “As far as the MVP race, I think that I’ve shown what I’m capable of doing. Not only individually but from a team’s perspective, us being number one in the West.”
He continued:
“There was a lot of conversation about, ‘LeBron can do those things in the East, but if he ever came to the West, what could he do?’ So I heard all of that,” James said. “To be able to have our team at the top of the Western Conference and playing the way that we were playing at that time and the way I was playing, it’s definitely a good feeling.”
Our vote would still go to Giannis, but what James has accomplished has been remarkable this season. He’s an ageless wonder.
