It wasn’t too long ago that Cam Newton was playing in a Super Bowl, but he’s currently not on any NFL roster, roughly a week before the 2021 season is set to begin.
Newton’s cryptic social media posts, as well as his attitude, resulted in the Patriots releasing him. And even though he was named league MVP in 2015, the team’s decision to draft Mac Jones in the first round earlier this year made it clear that Newton’s time with the Patriots was running thin.
And so when Newton began running his mouth on Instagram, it wasn’t a huge shock that the team cut him loose. Bill Belichick runs a tight ship, and he wastes no time getting rid of any potential distractions.
Other NFL teams appeared to have taken note of Newton’s poor attitude, though, as the latest report from ESPN’s Jeff Darlington is that no one is rushing to sign him.
“There’s not a lot of teams right now that are necessarily all that interested in bringing on Newton at all,” Darlington said.
Newton has an injury history, and carries a ton of baggage, so it’s not a huge shock that teams aren’t running to sign him.
