Recency bias often creeps into the minds of both fans and media members, with one particular analyst getting a bit caught up in the moment, and hearing about it from one of the NBA’s biggest stars.
It seemed like only yesterday when the Warriors were appearing in the NBA Finals for the fifth consecutive time, and superstar shooter Stephen Curry was being praised as the greatest shooter the league has ever seen. But the Warriors got hit by the injury bug big time this season, with Curry himself missing a ton of games, and the NBA world has now shifted its talk to Damian Lillard, who has been pulling up and draining shots from all over the court, including the logo.
Lillard was the best player on the court in Game 1 of the Blazers-Lakers series on Tuesday night, even with LeBron James and Anthony Davis out there as well. The Blazers guard dropped 34 points, and was especially great in the fourth quarter, helping close the game out.
In fact, “Inside The NBA” analyst Kenny Smith was so impressed that he claimed Lillard had better range than Curry after the game was in the books.
Curry got wind of it, and he called out Smith, who sure looked like a prisoner of the moment.
Smith, to his credit, did “apologize,” in a sense.
We’re gonna need the two superstars to square off in a game of H-O-R-S-E when the playoffs wrap up. Let’s see who can consistently drain shots from outer space, to put this debate to rest, once and for all.
