It’s no secret that Marcus Morris is a big trash talker, and a physical player, so given his history, there’s a lot of talk about one particular questionable play involving him that took place in Tuesday’s 154-111 blowout win over the Mavericks.
The Clippers bounced back in a big way from their loss in Game 4, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back. Even when the team pulled Paul George and Kawhi Leonard in the fourth quarter, their bench players actually increased their margin of victory by draining a number of three-pointers, which probably didn’t go over well with the Mavs.
One particular play in question sticks out, though, as Mavs young superstar Luka Doncic was playing in the game on an injured ankle. At one point in the third quarter, Morris was running behind Doncic, and then stepped on that ankle. It seemed harmless at the time, but given Morris’ history, it may not have been a coincidence.
Morris denied any wrongdoing, though.
It’s unlikely that the league will discipline Morris, as it’s very difficult to judge intent on that type of bang-bang play. Either way, it deserves some scrutiny, at the least.
