Jets’ pathetic defense somehow allows 49ers to convert on astronomically-high third down situation

The New York Jets are clearly the worst team in the NFL, no matter how you slice it.

The team showed that in Sunday’s Week 2 matchup against the 49ers, getting dominated from the moment the game kicked off. San Francisco traveled cross-country for the game, but sure didn’t look like it, jumping out to a 21-3 lead against New. York heading into halftime.

And while the 49ers were playing without star tight end George Kittle, the Jets simply could not get a stop on defense. In fact, the team had the 49ers backed up in a third-and-31 situation, yet the Jets allowed them to convert anyway. It sure looked like the Niners were just looking to pick up a few extra yards for some breathing room, but Jerick McKinnon received a handoff and gained a lot more — 55 yards, in fact.

Allowing that conversion in a seemingly-impossible situation is just demoralizing — and embarrassing — for a defense.
