Well, it seems LeBron James is truly set on making Los Angeles his home for the remainder of his NBA career.
After signing a multi-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers two offseasons ago, James is already taking himself out of a possible 2021 free agency appearance as the veteran superstar inked a two-year extension with the Lakers on Wednesday.
According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, James agreed to a two-year, $85 million contract extension on Wednesday afternoon. The upgraded deal comes just a couple of months after the Lakers defeated the Miami Heat in the 2020 NBA Finals.
Now, the Lakers are looking to run it back with the core superstars in place next season. Although James was already on board for the 2020-2021 run, the Lakers now have to shift their focus on putting together the right deal for their superstar power forward Anthony Davis.
As Davis had a player option on his previous contract from his time with the New Orleans Pelicans for the 2020-2021 season, the NBA standout expectedly opted out this offseason with the intentions of getting paid in the open market.
While Davis is an unrestricted free agent, everybody knows Davis wants to return in the purple and gold — and the Lakers intend to make it happen. Now, Davis and James could remain a duo for years to come.
