Aaron Rodgers has still yet to show up for any Packers’ workouts and team activities, but for some reason, he has time to play in “The Match” this week.
It’s clear that he’s sending a message to the team, by hosting Jeopardy! and playing in a meaningless golf event, yet giving them no signs he intends to suit up for them this season. In fact, he made comments in the past that indicated he won’t play for the team as long as Brian Gutekunst is general manager.
Gutekunst isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, so Rodgers will have a decision to make. The Packers have acknowledged that the situation between them and their star quarterback is a difficult one, but they don’t seem to be interested in trading him, at least not now anyway.
In the meantime, Rodgers recently dropped an interesting quote during an interview ahead of “The Match.”
“Sometimes the loudest person in the room is not the smartest person,” Rodgers said, via ESPN.com. “Sometimes the loudest person in the room is not the person who has all the facts on their side or the truth on their side. Sometimes there’s a lot of wisdom in silence. Sometimes there’s a lot of wisdom in being selective on what you say.”
Rodgers may no longer be the “loudest” of the two sides, but he did start this dissension by complaining about his future with the team.
