The Charles Barkley vs. fat San Antonio women feud may finally have come to a close, but not due to anything either side has said or done.
Barkley has had it out for overweight female Spurs fans for over a decade, after he initially zinged them on-air, but saw it get blown out of proportion. The reaction from San Antonio women, namely the vitriol, was strong. And it was on from that point on.
It’s been an ongoing back-and-forth for a long time, with pot shots ranging from harmless troll jobs, to angry, pointed statements from female Spurs fans.
But it’s probably over now.
Barkley recently revealed that his bosses at Turner told him to pull the plug on ripping Spurs fans, during an interview on 106.7 The Fan.
“They won’t even let me talk about San Antonio anymore,” he said, as transcribed by mysanantonio.com.
He continued:
“They’re like we got this one lady who wrote an article,” Barkley said. “I’m like first of all, I didn’t call anybody personally fat in San Antonio, I was just joking around and this one lady wrote this article. So y’all are going to let one lady — we’ve been having fun with this for 10-15 years.”
It seemed like good, old-fashioned ribbing so us, but apparently, that just doesn’t fly anymore.
