It’s still early, as the current college football season hasn’t even ended yet, but Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence is already on track to be the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft if he’s on the board.
Lawrence holds all the cards right now, as he continues to destroy opposing defenses every week, with the Tigers in a great spot to make another title run. And once the season is over, he can decide to stay at Clemson for his senior year, declare for the draft or even sit out for a year.
The (0-7) Jets are currently in position to have the No. 1 pick in the draft, and they’re not the most attractive landing spot. As such, there’s been talk of whether or not Lawrence could choose to stay at Clemson for another year to avoid being drafted by a team such as the Jets. Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney doesn’t see it happening.
Staying in college could prove to be a pivotal mistake for Lawrence, as he’d be risking injury or another issue potentially popping up. His stock is sky-high right now, and it’d probably be wise to strike while the iron is hot.
