Blazers superstar Damian Lillard missed two critical free throws down the stretch in Saturday’s 122-117 loss to the Clippers, and it really hurt the team’s chances of gaining the 8-seed in the Western Conference.
They dropped all the way to having a 32.3 percent change of finishing eighth, according to SportsLine, and it’s fair to wonder if those free throws will affect Dame going forward, especially since he’s 88.9 percent from the line for his career.
And the Clippers made sure to let him know about it. Patrick Beverley yelled “Dame Time!” after Lillard missed both, and it could be heard clear as day. Paul George had some words as well, as the Clippers players enjoyed a laugh about it.
Dame took notice of it, too, and he fired right back at PG13 and Beverley, specifically mentioning how he knocked both players’ teams out of the playoffs in the past.
“
“Asking me about Patrick Beverley, who I sent him home before at the end of a game,” Lillard began. “Paul George is a guy sent home by me last year in the playoffs, so they know. The reason they reacting like that is because of what they expecting from me, which is a sign of respect, and it just shows what I’ve done at a high clip more times than not. I’m not offended by it.”
He continued:
“If anything, it should just tell you how much it hurt them to go through what I put them through in those situations previously.”
Bang!
