The Spurs lost a pivotal game on Thursday night, eliminating them from postseason contention, and snapping the most impressive streak in all sports.
San Antonio had clinched the playoffs 22 consecutive times up until this particular campaign, putting an end to an unbelievable run by the team. And, of course, head coach Gregg Popovich was immediately asked about the streak after the loss.
Not only did Pop have some fun with the question, but he also trolled President Donald Trump in doing so. Popovich has expressed his disdain for POTUS in the past, and so he answered the question by mocking Trump with a “fake news” comment.
“Who told [Express-News reporter Tom] Orsborn that the streak ended? That’s fake news. That’s total fake news,” Popovich said, as transcribed by the San Antonio Express-News.
It’s not fake, though; it certainly happened, but props to Pop for having some fun with the question, and putting a humorous spin on the streak having concluded.
