The Phillies were the most disappointing team in MLB last season, given all the talent on their roster, but a managerial change has made a world of difference, as they’ve won seven of their last eight games, and are getting hot at the right time.
And if you ask their new manager, they’re all-in on winning a title this season.
The team hired veteran manager Joe Girardi because he knows how to win — both during the regular season, and the playoffs. And he’s completely turned around the Phillies’ outlook, with them trailing the Braves by only three games for the division lead, and beginning to click as a team.
Girardi appears optimistic about their chances of winning a title, too, as he recently told reporters the Phillies are “going for it.”
“That we’re going for it,” he said, via USA Today Sports. “They’ve given us what they need. Now, it’s on us to play to the best of our ability.”
Girardi is right. Expectations are high, and given how talented they are, they’ll be expected to make a deep playoff run this season.
