The NBA players choosing to boycott was a powerful move, but it didn’t last long, and it’s over now.
It will be interesting to see if their message was heard, and if the league’s owners really do help spark social change around the country, which is what the players were seeking. Still, their decision completely shook up the sports world, as MLB, MLS and WNBA teams elected not to play on Wednesday night as well.
But the players likely understood that playing in the bubble gave them the most powerful platform and opportunity to help get their message out there, so they’ll be resuming the playoffs in the near future, despite LeBron James and others having voted against doing so on Wednesday, then walking out of the room.
In the meantime, James shared a powerful message about “change” after the players chose to lift their boycott on Thursday.
