The Jacksonville Jaguars got their guy, hiring Urban Meyer as head coach, and optimism is higher than it’s been in quite some time regarding the future of the franchise.
Ownership was clearly all-in on Meyer, as the team didn’t interview many other candidates. And while other NFL teams have attempted to lure Meyer into coaching in the past, props to the Jaguars, as they were able to get him there.
Meyer is a huge addition, who will likely build a culture, with structure, which the team has not had since Tom Coughlin was coaching them, roughly two decades ago. Not only that, they have the benefit of the No. 1 overall pick, which could either turn into Trevor Lawrence or a boatload of other selections that could prove vital during their roster overhaul.
As for Meyer, he appears optimistic about the future of the team he’ll be running going forward.
“I think Shad [Khan] and the organization is positioned, and it’s not by accident,” he said at his introductory press conference, via NFL.com. “Shad got very involved in the entire roster, etc. And I think it’s primed. l think it’s primed to put together a good team. People that know me, I’m not going to jump into a situation where I don’t believe we can win. I won’t do that. I think everything is here.”
He has a tough task ahead of him, but if anyone’s up for the challenge, it’s Meyer, as he won three national titles — albeit at the collegiate level.
