Indiana Pacers veteran guard Victor Oladipo has caused quite a stir lately. As the Pacers’ organization deals with a coaching turnover, rumors regarding the team’s most prominent player began circulating on Thursday and it wasn’t a good look for anybody involved.
On Thursday, a report from the Indianapolis Star had social media going crazy. Apparently, multiple times last season, members of the Pacers overheard Victor Oladipo asking opponents if he could come to join them at some point.
“It happened vs. the Toronto Raptors. It happened vs. the Miami Heat. It happened vs. the New York Knicks,” the Star reports. “Can I come play with y’all?” Or some iteration of that puzzling statement. That’s what Victor Oladipo said — in front of Indiana Pacers teammates — increasing the agitation with the star guard in the locker room, three league sources with direct knowledge of the situation told IndyStar.”
Of course, the questionable rumors made its rounds on social media on Thursday afternoon and Oladipo caught wind of it. So, on Friday, the Pacers’ star assured the team that what they are hearing is false — and Oladipo is committed to playing for the Pacers this upcoming season.
“I know there have been people saying that I have asked players to trade for me,” Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. “That’s just not true, period. I love my teammates, I cherish the state of Indiana and I’m focused on leading this franchise to a title.”
