Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona passed away earlier this week, and one of his countrymen paid tribute to him during a La Liga match on Sunday.
Lionel Messi, like Maradona, has scored plenty of big goals for Argentina over the years. The two superstar strikers made a habit of giving opposing teams fits, with fans and teammates alike having a lot to be excited about.
Messi suited up for Barcelona in Sunday’s game against Osasuna, and he found the back of the net with a beautiful strike from the top of the box in the 73rd minute. He paid tribute to Maradona with the celebration that followed, taking off his Barcelona jersey, to reveal the upper half of Maradona’s Newell’s Old Boys’ kit.
Great goal, but an even greater gesture, as a sign of respect for the Argentine legend.
