It’s been said that there’ll be a resurgence for Manchester United, but that simply has not happened as of yet. Still, former players are attempting to do all they can to help the club.
Manchester United legend Gary Neville is trying to do exactly that, apparently.
The stalwart defender played for the club for this entire professional career, from 1992-2011, which speaks to how loyal he is. He’ll probably never have to pay for a drink in England for the rest of his days, but that’s beside the point.
What does matter, however, is what Neville had to say about the team’s attempt to sign 20-year-old winger Jadon Sancho away from Borussia Dortmund. The Red Devils have long been in pursuit of Sancho, who is likely to command a transfer fee of roughly £100 million or more.
United does appear to be near the top of the list, and Neville wants the club to go get him sooner than later, which he stated during an interview with “Webby and O’Neill.”
“You’re still going to have to basically encourage the player to come, you’re still going to have to pay the money to the club,” he began, as transcribed by Goal.com, You’re not going to be able to bully Borussia Dortmund if they’re going to sell him. Next summer, Real Madrid might be in for him, Bayern Munich might be in for him, City might be back in for him – although they’ve said they’re not – and Chelsea might come in for him.
“When all the other clubs are armed with money, he might have four or five choices. The fact that he could come to Manchester United this summer, because Manchester United are the only shop in town maybe that can afford him this summer, is where United will get players they may not have been able to get previously.”
Sancho is a playmaker for sure, and United could certainly use more of those on the wing.
