Life in Tampa Bay hasn’t begun how Tom Brady probably envisioned it would, as a poor performance from the six-time Super Bowl winner and Week 1 loss has already sparked some speculation about the 43-year-old quarterback being washed.
And, not only that, his head coach isn’t making excuses for him, either.
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is a master of dancing around questions from reporters, and he’s never been one to throw his players under the bus. Well, Bruce Arians takes a different approach to coaching, and he demands the most out of his guys. So when he watched Tom Brady make some poor throws in the team’s Week 1 loss to the Saints, he had no problem letting the world know about it.
It was a bit surprising, given that it was Brady’s first game with the team, and also since Arians had gushed about the veteran quarterback all offseason, but it happened. Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre knows all about playing the position, and he cautioned Arians against calling out Brady publicly.
“I think the last person you want to call out after the first game of the year is Tom Brady,” Favre said, via the New York Post. “Now, maybe they had a mutual truce going into the game, going into the season, ‘Hey, I’m going to be hard on you. I want the guys to know we’re going to treat you the same even though technically I’m not, so are you OK with it?’ If they have that truce, great. If not, I think you are barking up the wrong tree.”
Favre can say what he wants, but Arians marches to the beat of his own drum. Good luck barking up that tree.
