The Bengals’ plan to have rookie quarterback Joe Burrow attempt roughly 50 passes a game may not have been a good one against the Football Team, as Washington’s defensive front is one of the best in the NFL at generating pressure on opposing signal-callers.
For some reason, though, Cincinnati’s coaching staff refused to adjust its gameplan, with no commitment whatsoever to the run game. That really wasn’t a good idea against the Football Team’s defense, given how the Bengals’ offensive line is one of the worst in the league.
As a result, Burrow was hit early and often in Sunday’s game, including a massive hit from No. 2 overall pick Chase Young. The Bengals offense stalled in the red zone, and Burrow was forced to take off running on 4th-and-goal. Unfortunately for him, only Young stood between him and the end zone, and he received a massive hit from the Ohio State product — resulting in a turnover on downs.
Young delivered a clean hit by leading with his shoulder, but Burrow paid the price.
