Blazers superstar guard Damian Lillard is tired of hearing critics say that Carmelo Anthony has nothing left in the tank.
Melo was out of the league for nearly the entirety of last season, as the Rockets cut him in November of 2018, and no other team took a flyer on him. The Blazers were hit with some major injuries this season, so they took a shot on signing him, and it worked to perfection.
Anthony hit two big three-pointers down the stretch of the fourth quarter in the team’s thrilling overtime win over the Grizzlies, helping lift them to victory. He drained another big shot in their win over the Rockets.
If you ask Lillard, Anthony commands the respect of those in the NBA world, which he made clear after Tuesday’s 110-102 win.
“He understands what we need from him in certain situations, depending on how the game is going,” Lillard said, according to ESPN.com. “It’s obvious to somebody like me that he pays attention to everything. I find it real funny and disrespectful how people speak on him. He’s a Hall of Famer.”
Anthony may be a liability on the defensive end, but he sure can shoot — especially late in games. No one has ever said otherwise.
