Dua Lipa went to her first baseball game, ate her first hot dog, and still wasn’t the most attention-hungry person in her own section at Yankee Stadium.
She and her husband, Callum Turner, sat in the second row behind home plate for Game 3 of the ALDS between the Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays, according to Bleacher Report, having what sounds like a genuinely nice, normal night. New ballpark, new snack, nobody bothering them.
Then Laurence Leavy showed up.
You know him as Marlins Man, or at least you know the costume. He’s spent something like two decades parking himself directly behind home plate at the biggest games in sports, inflatable marlin suit and all, making sure the broadcast camera finds him before it finds anything else. He found Dua Lipa before the third inning was over.
Leavy posted the selfie himself, thanking them for being sweet about it and wishing them fifty years of happiness after hearing they’d gotten married in Italy.

Buried in his own caption is the detail that actually matters: he said flat out that he had no idea who either of them was. Not a vague “wasn’t sure,” not playing it cool. He genuinely did not know.
That’s the whole act, condensed into one sentence. Leavy’s bit was never about who’s in the photo. It’s about there being a photo, and a camera pointed at something the world already cares about, and him standing close enough to borrow the attention on the way by.
He doesn’t need to recognize the star. He needs the lens.
I’m already in a bad mood this week. The New York Yankees lost Game 3, got swept by the Rays, and by the time I’d finished writing up the Yankees’ season-ending sweep, nobody around me was even talking about the game anymore. They were talking about the man in the fish suit.
None of this makes Leavy a villain, and that’s almost the more annoying part. By every account, his own included, he was warm and polite, and the two of them seemed to genuinely enjoy meeting him. He didn’t shove anyone, and he didn’t ruin their night.
He just showed up, admitted on the record that he had zero idea who was sitting next to him, and still walked away with the photo everyone’s talking about the next day.
Dua Lipa got a ballgame and a hot dog. Marlins Man got the main character edit. One of them worked a lot harder for it.
