Mavericks young superstar Luka Doncic delivered a performance for the ages in Game 4 against the Clipers on Sunday, playing on an injured ankle, and he’s humble enough to admit he had a bit of help in picking his opponents apart nearly every offensive trip down the floor.
Doncic recorded a triple-double in the thrilling 135-133 overtime win, dropping 43 points on an efficient 18-of-31 shooting, with 13 assists and 17 rebounds as well. It’s remarkable given that he was questionable to play in the game to begin with, spraining his ankle in the previous contest less than 48 hours beforehand.
He was the best player on the floor for either team, in a game that included veteran stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. And even though his team found themselves in a difficult situation, trailing with 3.7 seconds remaining, Doncic rose to the occasion and drained an incredible stepback three-pointer from roughly 29 feet out to beat the buzzer and lift his team to victory.
And even though he was a one-man wrecking crew in the game, Doncic made sure to show some love for the Mavericks medical staff in helping him recover from his ankle injury to play in Sunday’s contest.
“The guys that you don’t hear about behind (the scenes) did an amazing job with me yesterday,” Doncic said, via Yahoo Sports.
“We were working almost the whole day. They were helping me out the whole time, whatever I needed. I obviously wasn’t 100%, but I think I was good.”
He sure was good, indeed. That comment is an understatement. The 21-year-old rising star was sensational in the win, helping his team even the series at two games apiece.
