The social justice movement that is sweeping the country has had a major effect on organizations, in terms of rebranding, and it appears that one particular university is also doing exactly that.
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas didn’t actively announce that they’d be moving away from their Runnin’ Rebel mascot, but apparently, that’s exactly what’s happening. The well-known mascot resembles Yosemite Sam from “Looney Tunes,” but some have viewed it as a reminder of how America was — when civil unrest was worse than it is now.
As a result, the Hey Reb statue was removed on Tuesday, and this photo serves as proof.
The university released a statement about it soon after.
It will be interesting to see what goes up in its place.
