Brian Flores shoots down Xavien Howard trade rumors

Dolphins star cornerback Xavien Howard may be looking to get out of Miami, but don’t expect the team to move him anytime soon.

Howard is coming off the best season of his career, with 10 interceptions, and 20 pass deflections. It’s a campaign that many cornerbacks dream of, statistically speaking, and he’s looking to cash in.

The problem, for him, is that he signed a five-year deal roughly two years ago. He’s entering the third season on it, but is looking for a new contract. In fact, he’s indicated that since the team isn’t looking to award him with one, he wants the Dolphins to trade him.

But the Dolphins have Howard under contract, so they have all the leverage in the situation. And they don’t have any plans to trade him.

“We don’t want to trade X,” head coach Brian Flores said at a recent press conference. “You can write that down. He’s a very good player. He’s a big part of the team. We don’t want to trade him.”

It’s ridiculous that Howard is even asking for a new deal, and the Dolphins are right to hold firm during this impasse.
