There have been a lot of conflicting takes about the relationship between Sixers big man Joel Embiid and young superstar forward Ben Simmons, and it’s tough to decipher what’s really true.
At times, it’s looked like the two are close teammates, yet there have been other instances where their body language has said otherwise. The situation with Jimmy Butler last season also provided an interesting dynamic, as it almost looked as if he split up the two to a certain extent.
And now the pressure is on, as an early playoff exit could result in one of the two players getting moved in the offseason, as well as head coach Brett Brown’s departure. The team is clearly aware of that, so Embiid is saying all the right things heading into the season restart, attempting to rid the Sixers of any potential distractions.
He recently opened up about his relationship with Simmons, and had a lot of positive things to say about his teammate, in speaking to reporters.
“When you think about it, this is only our third year. You see the potential that we have,” Embiid said. “I love him and want to be with him for the rest of my career. I don’t see a point in ever wanting to play with somebody else.
We’ll see what he’s saying in a few months from now, when the 2019-20 season is in the books.
