He may not have stepped on the field in Super Bowl LV, but LeSean McCoy won his second straight championship ring just a few weeks ago, and he’s played for enough teams to recognize greatness.
McCoy has played with some stellar, big-name quarterbacks over the years, the majority of which dated back to his tenure in Philadelphia. But he also played for the Chiefs last season, and got to receive handoffs and catch passes from Patrick Mahomes.
And yet, McCoy somehow actually upgraded in a sense, this past season, having signed a one-year deal to play alongside Tom Brady — the quarterback many agree to be the GOAT. Brady won his seventh Super Bowl ring just a few weeks ago, which is crazy any way you think about it. What’s also crazy is that he’s 43 years old, and McCoy believes Brady could possibly even play in the NFL for five more seasons.
“He’s the only player that I’ve ever been around that, when he speaks, when he talks, I believe him,” McCoy said on “The Pat McAfee Show,” as transcribed by MassLive.com. “He could tell me, ‘Shady, go walk on that water. You won’t drown.’ I’m going to be like, ‘OK.’ He has that type of thing about him. And the way he works. When I was younger, I wish I worked as hard as he does. We just won a Super Bowl and he’s back training, doing little things.”
He continued:
“I’m like, this guy is so dialed in. He’s 43! He’s dialed in. He can play another five years. Just because, not only just the talent or the big arm and all that. It’s just like, he gets it. He gets it.”
McCoy may be acting like a prisoner of the moment with that take. At some point, Brady’s body’s going to break down. And if the offensive line in front of him isn’t a top-five unit, his age will begin to show more at that time.
