The Olympics didn’t take place in 2020 as planned, due to the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, but the good news is the Tokyo Games are on track for 2021.
In fact, we now even have a rough draft of what the schedule may look like.
It’s been said that if the Tokyo Games don’t take place in 2021, that they won’t happen at all, as the committee would have to began planning for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. As such, there’s a lot of pressure to make sure the Tokyo Games happen next summer.
It does appear that they’ll be taking place as scheduled, at least right now, and the Olympics organizers released a date and time for them to start during a recent IOC media session.
“Today, we are able to report that we have confirmed both the competition schedule and the use of all venues originally planned for this year, including the venue for the athletes village and the main press centre,” said Tokyo 2020 CEO Toshiro Muto, according to Reuters.
The Tokyo Games are set to begin at 9 a.m. GMT in Fukushima on July 21.
