The Patriots have a stable of running backs at their disposal, so opposing teams never really know who to gameplan for each week on defense.
And that element of surprise sure benefited Rex Burkhead in Sunday’s game against the Raiders.
Bill Belichick is a master of scheming, so he elected to roll with Burkhead for the majority of the workload in the backfield on Sunday, given that the Raiders field a young defensive front that struggles at tackling.
And it worked. Burkhead was successful on the ground throughout the game, including when he caught a short pass from Cam Newton near the end zone. Burkhead was met by some Raiders defenders, but he casually took flight, and actually made his way into the end zone with them underneath him.
Crowd surfing touchdowns are our favorite.
