Saints Jacob Blake

Saints players practiced with Jacob Blake’s name on their helmets

There are plenty of ways to protest racial injustice.

New Orleans Saints players chose their own way to put the spotlight on the most recent shooting incident. They had Jacob Blake’s name on their helmets during Thursday’s practice.

Jacob Blake, the Black man shot multiple times by police in Wisconsin, is paralyzed, and it would “take a miracle” for him to walk again, his family’s attorney said Tuesday, while calling for the officer who opened fire to be
arrested and others involved to lose their jobs.

Sean Peyton spoke about the players’ decision to wear Jacob Blake’s name on their helmet following the practice:

The Saints were far from the only sports organization taking a stand after Blake’s shooting.

On Thursday, nine NFL teams canceled practices or scrimmages.

This is what must be done.
