Cam Newton has come a long way from the player who walked off the field after a loss to the Broncos in Super Bowl 50 without shaking hands.
Newton has clearly matured over the past few years, taking steps forward in his character development, both on and off the field.
He showed that this season, as he and the Patriots struggled immensely, especially on offense, but he fielded questions from reporters week after week, no matter the situation. And he gave thoughtful, compelling responses to their questions.
Newton recently held a 7-on-7 tournament tournament over the weekend in Myrtle Beach, when one particular participant tried to heckle the veteran signal-caller, over the fact that he’s set to become a free agent. Cam, however, had the perfect response to the arrogant kid’s barbs.
“You’re a free agent,” the kid said. “You’re gonna be poor.”
And here’s what Newton said repeatedly.
“I’m rich!” Newton chimed back.
Newton handled that precarious situation perfectly.
