It’s hard to fathom that Yannick Ngakoue is still on the Jaguars roster, given all that’s taken place over the past year, but that’s the current status of this tenuous situation.
Ngakoue still has yet to have signed his franchise tender, and he’s made it clear he’s not going to play for the Jaguars. Similar to the situation with Jamal Adams and the Jets, this relationship has been severed beyond repair. The problem, however, is that Ngakoue has now destroyed his trade stock in doing so, as he’s made the team look desperate, which has likely lowered the asking price during negotiations.
Still, it appears the Jaguars won’t offer him a long-term contract extension, and even if they did, it’s highly unlikely that he’d sign it. So, when the rubber meets the road, he’ll eventually get moved.
But that hasn’t happened as of yet, and head coach Doug Marrone recently provided an update on the situation.
Marrone began by telling reporters he hasn’t spoken with Ngakoue, which isn’t a good sign, but he did offer this piece of coach speak:
“But, like I’ve said before: He’s one player that I know is always ready,” Marrone said, via the team’s official website.
This situation has become beyond laughable at this point, and is just another reason the Jaguars’ organization has been drawing so much criticism for how it conducts business. And let’s not forget that Marrone and general manager Dave Caldwell are still employed by the team, but that’s for another discussion.
